Book Signing: Tahereh Mafi and Ransom Riggs

On Tuesday, I went to a panel and book signing with Tahereh Mafi and Ransom Riggs at a Barnes and Noble nearby, joined by two of my book club friends, Betty and Lindsey. It was so much fun! Of course, Betty and I had to represent our fictional boyfriends.

We arrived a little late but still got to hear some of the Q&A, which was great because they’re both so funny and insightful. I took some creeper shots while they were answering questions.

My favorite part was when Tahereh encouraged the audience to be persistent and follow your dreams, because if you keep at it and really believe, you’ll be successful. As someone who wants to get published, this was really encouraging to hear.

Then it was time for the signing and we wanted to be last in line so we could have the chance to chat with the authors without holding other people up. You know how normal people fight over being first in line? Yeah, not us. Shenanigans ensued as we tried to maintain our spot as last (one woman ended up behind us…gah, so close). Tahereh liked our shirts, so that was a success! We got creepy photo postcards promoting Ransom Rigg’s sequel, and I’ll probably never look at mine directly again because I stupidly picked up one that had these masked children and they look like little clown people and I’m getting freaked out just thinking about it.

Then we got a group photo! But we didn’t like any of the ones we got on any of our phones and had to go back a second time. Luckily, they were cool with it and let us take another picture where all of us looked cute. A fun night all around! I hope more authors come to our area soon.
